During 10 weeks we researched who are these people, what would be their communication needs and how to approach them. We thought about low tech and low cost designs to reach the “unconnected” communities, and posting a letter is still the most affordable and available way to connect people. But some of them do not write and camera phones are expensive. How to help them connect with their relatives?
We met Anthony Chu, a photographer who work closely with immigrants coming to work as labor force in Malaysia. He does photo editing for them, merging pictures of they loved ones with them in the place of their dreams, for a price they can afford.
We built a few pinhole cameras and tried them with the Nepalese immigrants and set up a temporary photo taking booth to shoot a free photo and print it onto postcards. They sent them out on the same day.
As a side effect, such service would help re-link the connected to the less-tech savvy people… When is the last time you wrote a postcard?
Luid is a design collaboration platform with a hands-on approach, carried by a team of nice creative consultants scattered mostly over Europe and Asia.
